Sound familiar?
- Your website looks dated on a phone and you are embarrassed to send people to it
- Nobody in the business can update the site without ringing a developer
- Enquiries from the contact form vanish into an inbox nobody checks
- Your shop and your accounts package do not talk, so orders get retyped by hand
- The site runs on a PHP version that stopped getting security fixes years ago
- You have had quotes that range wildly and you cannot tell what you are actually paying for

What we mean by website development
Website development covers everything from a ten-page site for a local firm to a trading platform that takes orders, raises invoices and updates stock. The work is the same in principle: work out what the site has to do for the business, pick the right foundation, build it cleanly and hand it over so you are not locked in.
At dijitul developments we sit at the more technical end. We are happy building a WordPress site with a sensible block setup, but most of our work involves something extra: a shop that feeds your accounts package, a members area, a quote builder, a product catalogue fed from a supplier spreadsheet, or a site that has to keep its old URLs so years of search rankings are not thrown away. We have been doing that since the OpenCart and KashFlow days, and the habits from that work (careful data handling, testing every order path, documenting what we build) carry into every project.
Choosing the right platform
The platform decision matters more than the design. Get it wrong and you pay for it every year. Here is how we usually think about it:
| If you need | We would usually look at |
|---|---|
| A content-led business site your team edits often | WordPress with a block theme or a lean custom theme |
| An online shop with a modest catalogue and standard checkout | Shopify or WooCommerce |
| An existing OpenCart, CubeCart, PrestaShop or Magento store | Developing it further, or a planned ecommerce migration |
| Logins, workflows, pricing rules or data that is unique to you | Custom web development in Laravel or Node.js |
| A fast front end fed by several content sources | Headless CMS with a React or Next.js front end |
WordPress is the default for a reason: W3Techs currently reports it runs over 40% of all websites, so skills, plugins and hosting are easy to find. But a popular platform is not automatically the right one. If most of your requirements fight the platform, a custom build is often cheaper over five years.
How a website project runs
- Free chat. We talk through what the site is for, who uses it and what it needs to connect to. No charge, no obligation.
- Scoping. We write down pages, features, integrations, content responsibilities and what success looks like. For larger builds this is a paid discovery stage you can take elsewhere if you wish.
- Fixed-price quote. One price for the agreed scope. If you add things later, we quote those separately before doing them.
- Design and build. You see work on a staging site as it progresses, not a big reveal at the end.
- Testing. Forms, checkout paths, integrations, mobile layouts, accessibility and page speed.
- Launch and handover. 301 redirects from the old site, Search Console checks, then repository access and documentation.

Sites that connect to the rest of the business
A website earns its keep when it removes manual work. Typical examples from our projects:
- Online orders that create the customer and invoice in Xero, QuickBooks Online, Sage or KashFlow automatically, using their APIs rather than CSV exports. See accounting software integration.
- Card payments through Stripe Payment Intents, with webhooks confirming payment before the order is released.
- Enquiry forms that create a lead in your CRM and notify the right person, rather than one shared inbox.
- Stock and price feeds from a supplier or ERP, updated on a schedule with a log of what changed.
- UK address entry with postcode lookup, which cuts failed deliveries and typos.
Each of these is built with the same care: retries when an API is down, idempotency so a webhook received twice does not create two invoices, and an admin log so your team can see what happened.
Security, speed and staying current
Most problems we are asked to fix on existing sites are maintenance problems, not design problems. PHP 8.1 reached end of life at the end of 2025, and PHP 8.2 stops receiving security fixes at the end of 2026, according to the PHP project's supported versions page. Sites built today should target PHP 8.3 or 8.4.
We build with that in mind: dependencies managed with Composer or npm, code in Git, no edits made directly on the live server, and plugins kept to the ones that earn their place. We aim for good Core Web Vitals scores by keeping pages light, serving modern image formats and avoiding heavy page builders where a simple block will do.
When the site is live, you can host and maintain it wherever you like. If you would rather not think about it, our sister company offers website support and maintenance.
What we deliver
- A mobile-first website built on the platform that fits your business, not the one we happen to prefer
- An editing setup your team can use: page builder blocks, custom fields or a tailored admin
- Ecommerce with payments, delivery rules, VAT and stock handled properly
- Integrations with accounting, CRM, email marketing or booking systems via their APIs
- Technical SEO foundations: clean URLs, structured data, sitemaps, redirects from the old site
- Accessibility and performance checks before launch, against WCAG 2.2 and Core Web Vitals
- Full handover: repository access, admin logins, documentation and a plain-English guide
How it works and what it costs
Every project gets a fixed-price quote after a free initial chat and a short scoping stage. You own the code and the data.
Free chat
Tell us the problem in plain English: what you do now, what goes wrong and what "better" looks like. No charge, no obligation.
Scoping
We map the processes, systems and data involved, agree what is in and out, and write it down so there are no surprises.
Fixed-price quote
You get a fixed price for the agreed scope, or a phased plan for bigger builds, so you can start small and prove it works.
Build and test
We build in short stages you can see and try, test against real data, then go live carefully with a rollback plan.
Hand over and look after
You own the code and the data. We can host it, support it and keep improving it, or hand it to your own team.
Frequently asked questions
How much does a website cost with dijitul?
We do not publish prices because websites vary too much to make a price list honest. After a free chat we scope the work and give you a fixed-price quote for that scope. If you later want extra features, we quote those separately before starting, so the price you agreed is the price you pay.
Do you only build on WordPress?
No. dijitul builds on WordPress, WooCommerce, Shopify, OpenCart, CubeCart, PrestaShop and Magento, and writes custom sites in PHP, Laravel, Node.js, React and Python. We recommend the platform after understanding what the site needs to do, who will edit it and what it must connect to.
Will I own my website?
Yes. When the project is paid for, you own the code, the design files we produced, your content and your data. We hand over repository access and admin logins. Licensed third-party items, such as premium plugins or fonts, remain under their own licences, which we will point out during scoping.
Can you redesign our site without losing our Google rankings?
Yes, if it is planned. We crawl the old site, map every URL to its new equivalent, set 301 redirects, keep page titles and content that rank, and check Google Search Console after launch. Rankings are lost when old URLs are simply deleted, which is avoidable.
Can you take over a website another agency built?
Usually, yes. We start with a review of the code, hosting, plugins and PHP version, then tell you plainly what state it is in and what we would fix first. If the site is in poor shape, a code audit is a sensible first step.
Do you work with businesses outside Nottinghamshire?
Yes. dijitul is based in Mansfield but works with businesses across the UK. Most projects run over video calls, email and a shared staging site, and we are happy to meet in person where that helps.
