Sound familiar?
- The website sells stock the shop sold an hour ago
- Online and in-store sales are reconciled by hand at month end
- Amazon and eBay listings are updated separately from the website
- Click and collect is a phone call to the store
- Customer data sits in the till, the website and a mailing list that never match
- The checkout adds fees at the last step and you are not sure it is still legal

One stock figure, every channel
The hardest problem in retail software is the simplest to describe: one stock figure that is right everywhere. A small chain might sell through two shops on Lightspeed or Square, a Shopify or WooCommerce site, Amazon and eBay. Each has its own idea of stock. Overselling costs refunds and reviews. Underselling, by holding back buffer stock, costs sales.
dijitul developments builds the sync layer that fixes this. Where a multichannel tool such as Linnworks or Brightpearl already fits, we integrate with it rather than replace it. Where it does not, we build a stock service that listens to webhooks from each channel, decrements and allocates centrally, and pushes availability back out, with queues so a slow marketplace API never holds up the till.
What we build for retailers
- Ecommerce sites on Shopify, WooCommerce, OpenCart or bespoke. We compare the first two honestly on Shopify vs WooCommerce.
- EPOS and stock integrations linking tills to online channels.
- Marketplace feeds via the Amazon Selling Partner API and eBay APIs, with listing, price and order sync. See marketplace integration.
- Click and collect, reserve in store and ship from store, with staff screens for picking and customer notifications.
- Loyalty and customer accounts that work at the till and online.
- Migrations between platforms that keep URLs, customers and order history. We have built shop migration tools since the CubeCart and osCommerce days; see ecommerce migration.
Payments, PCI DSS and accounting
We keep card data out of your systems. Payments go through providers such as Stripe, using Payment Intents and webhooks, or the payment service built into your platform, so your PCI DSS scope stays as small as possible. Refunds, chargebacks and payouts are reconciled against orders automatically. Our Stripe integration page covers how we make webhook handling idempotent so a retried event never refunds twice.
For accounting, daily summaries or per-order invoices flow into Xero, QuickBooks Online or Sage with the right VAT codes and payment clearing accounts. That is the same job we first did for OpenCart shops and KashFlow, creating customers, invoices on payment and credit notes for cancelled orders.
Retail rules the software must follow
- Digital Markets, Competition and Consumers Act 2024: its consumer provisions came into force on 6 April 2025, according to law firm Cooley and others. Advertised prices must include mandatory fees (no drip pricing), and businesses must take reasonable steps to stop fake reviews. The CMA can now fine directly, up to 10% of global turnover. Checkout and review features need to be built with that in mind.
- Consumer Contracts Regulations 2013: the 14-day cancellation period and pre-contract information shape returns workflows.
- Packaging EPR: brand owners and importers above the thresholds report packaging data, so product records should hold packaging weights.
- UK GDPR and PECR: marketing consent must be recorded and honoured across till and web.
- Age-restricted products: age verification at checkout and on delivery where you sell alcohol, knives or similar.
Reporting retailers actually use
Once stock and orders flow through one place, reporting gets easy, and that is often where retailers see the return. Useful reports we build include sell-through by product and location, so slow lines in one shop can move to another before they need marking down; margin by channel after marketplace and payment fees; returns rate by product and reason, which often points at a sizing or photography problem; and reorder suggestions from sales velocity and supplier lead times.
We pull EPOS, ecommerce, marketplace and payment data into a reporting database rather than querying live systems, so dashboards are fast and do not slow the till or the checkout. Store managers get a simple daily view; buyers and owners get the detail. See dashboard and reporting development for how we build these, including scheduled email summaries for people who will never log in to a dashboard.
If you sell trade as well as retail, the same data model can carry trade price lists and account customers, which avoids running two separate systems.
Starting a retail project
Tell us your channels, your EPOS and where the pain is. After a free chat we map stock and order flows and give you a fixed-price quote. Many retailers start with stock sync alone, because it pays back fastest. Hosting for the finished build is available through dijitul hosting. See also software for wholesalers if you sell trade as well.

How it works and what it costs
Every project gets a fixed-price quote after a free initial chat and a short scoping stage. You own the code and the data.
Free chat
Tell us the problem in plain English: what you do now, what goes wrong and what "better" looks like. No charge, no obligation.
Scoping
We map the processes, systems and data involved, agree what is in and out, and write it down so there are no surprises.
Fixed-price quote
You get a fixed price for the agreed scope, or a phased plan for bigger builds, so you can start small and prove it works.
Build and test
We build in short stages you can see and try, test against real data, then go live carefully with a rollback plan.
Hand over and look after
You own the code and the data. We can host it, support it and keep improving it, or hand it to your own team.
Frequently asked questions
Can you sync stock between our tills and our website?
Yes. dijitul integrates EPOS systems such as Lightspeed, Square, Epos Now and Shopify POS with your online shop and marketplaces, using webhooks and queued updates so stock stays accurate across channels without a nightly batch.
Should we move to Shopify?
It depends on your range, integrations and appetite for monthly fees. Shopify suits many retailers; WooCommerce or bespoke suits others. We set out the trade-offs on our Shopify vs WooCommerce comparison and will recommend honestly in a free chat.
Do you store card details?
No. We use payment providers such as Stripe so card data never touches your servers, which keeps PCI DSS scope small. We handle the order, refund and payout logic around the provider's API and webhooks.
Can you connect our shop to Xero?
Yes. We post orders or daily summaries, refunds and payment provider payouts to Xero with correct VAT and clearing accounts, so month-end reconciliation becomes a check rather than a rebuild.
Will a platform migration lose our Google rankings?
Not if it is done carefully. We keep URL structures where possible, map 301 redirects for every product and category, and move customers and order history. dijitul has built ecommerce migration tools since its CubeCart and OpenCart work.
How do we get a price?
Book a free chat and tell us about your channels, your EPOS and what is going wrong. dijitul then scopes the work and gives a fixed-price quote for a defined piece of work. We do not charge by the hour for defined projects, and you own the code at the end.
