MVP Development for UK Startups and Businesses

dijitul developments builds MVPs (minimum viable products) for UK startups and businesses testing a new idea. We cut the scope to the one workflow that proves the idea, build it on a production-grade Laravel or Node.js stack, and put it in front of real users. Every MVP starts with a free chat and a fixed-price quote.

  • Laravel
  • Node.js
  • TypeScript
  • React
  • Stripe Checkout
  • PostgreSQL

Sound familiar?

  • Your feature list is two pages long and you have not tested demand yet
  • A no-code prototype has hit its limits
  • Previous quotes were for the whole vision, not a first step
  • You need something real to show investors or a pilot customer
  • You worry a quick build will need throwing away later

Key facts

  • Scope reduced to the smallest release that tests your riskiest assumption
  • Built on a production-grade stack, so it can grow rather than be thrown away
  • Fixed-price quote for the first release after a free chat
  • Analytics and feedback capture built in from day one
  • Stripe payments included if charging is part of the test
  • You own the code and IP from the start

What an MVP is (and is not)

A minimum viable product is the smallest version of a product that lets you learn whether it is worth building the rest. It is not a cheap version of everything. It is a complete version of one thing: one user type, one core workflow, done well enough that people will use it and, ideally, pay.

The hardest part is deciding what to leave out. We start by asking what has to be true for the idea to work: will customers sign up, will they pay, will they come back, will the operations side cope? The MVP is designed to answer the riskiest of those questions first.

We build MVPs for two groups. Founders who want to test a product before raising money or quitting a job, and established businesses exploring a new service line, such as a manufacturer adding an online trade ordering service or a consultancy turning its method into software. The second group often has an advantage: existing customers who will try a pilot and give honest feedback.

A worked example of MVP scope

Imagine a firm that wants to let tradespeople book equipment hire online. The full vision includes live availability across depots, delivery scheduling, damage reporting with photos, account credit limits, a native app and a Sage integration. The MVP question is simpler: will tradespeople book and pay online instead of phoning?

  • Must have: a catalogue of the most-hired items, a date picker against simple availability, card payment with Stripe Checkout, confirmation emails and an admin list of bookings.
  • Later: multi-depot stock, delivery routing, credit accounts, the accounting integration.
  • Manual for now: damage reports by email, delivery slots arranged by phone.

That release can go live, take real bookings and prove (or disprove) the idea at a fraction of the full build. If it works, the booking system grows from there.

Cutting scope without cutting corners

In scoping, every feature goes into one of three lists: must have for the first release, later, or never. Common things that move to later are complex reporting, granular permissions, native mobile apps and integrations that can be done manually for the first twenty customers. Common things we keep are secure logins, data validation, backups and payments, because those are expensive to bolt on and painful to get wrong.

We also look for manual stand-ins. If a feature can be handled by you, behind the scenes, for the first few months, that is often a better test than building it. Automate once you know it is needed.

Built to keep, not throw away

A common fear is that an MVP is disposable. Ours are not. We build on the same mainstream stack we use for full systems: PHP 8 and Laravel, or Node.js and TypeScript, with MySQL/MariaDB or PostgreSQL. The difference is scope, not quality. When the MVP works, phase two extends the same codebase.

If users will mostly be on phones, we usually ship the MVP as a progressive web app rather than separate iOS and Android builds. It installs to the home screen, works on every device and avoids app store review delays while you are still changing things weekly. A native app can follow once the product is proven.

Measuring what happens next

An MVP that does not measure anything wastes the point. We add analytics events for the steps that matter, such as sign-up, first key action, payment and return visit, and a simple way for users to send feedback from inside the app. Where charging is part of the test, we add Stripe Checkout so you learn about willingness to pay, not just interest.

After launch, we review the numbers with you and turn what users actually did into the scope for the next phase. That might be a full SaaS product, an internal web application, or a decision to change direction before spending more.

How we price an MVP

Every MVP starts with a free chat about the idea and who it is for. We then run a short scoping stage and give a fixed-price quote for the first release. Because the scope is deliberately tight, the price is too, and you know exactly what you will get. The code and intellectual property are yours from the start. See discovery and scoping for what that stage involves, or get in touch.

What we deliver

  • A scoping workshop that ranks features into must, later and never
  • Clickable wireframes of the core screens
  • A working web app or PWA with sign-up and the core workflow
  • Basic admin tools so you can support early users
  • Analytics events and a simple feedback channel
  • A roadmap and fixed-price quote options for the next phase

How it works and what it costs

Every project gets a fixed-price quote after a free initial chat and a short scoping stage. You own the code and the data.

  1. Free chat

Tell us the problem in plain English: what you do now, what goes wrong and what "better" looks like. No charge, no obligation.

  2. Scoping

We map the processes, systems and data involved, agree what is in and out, and write it down so there are no surprises.

  3. Fixed-price quote

You get a fixed price for the agreed scope, or a phased plan for bigger builds, so you can start small and prove it works.

  4. Build and test

We build in short stages you can see and try, test against real data, then go live carefully with a rollback plan.

  5. Hand over and look after

You own the code and the data. We can host it, support it and keep improving it, or hand it to your own team.

Frequently asked questions

What should be in an MVP?

Only what is needed to test your riskiest assumption with real users: usually sign-up, one core workflow, basic admin and, if relevant, payment. dijitul helps sort every feature into must have, later or never during scoping, so the first release stays small and focused.

Will we have to rebuild the MVP later?

Not if it is built properly. dijitul builds MVPs on the same Laravel or Node.js stack used for full systems, with tests around the core rules. Later phases extend the same codebase rather than replacing it.

Should our MVP be a mobile app?

Usually not at first. A progressive web app runs on every phone, installs to the home screen and avoids app store review while you iterate. dijitul recommends native iOS or Android apps once the product is proven and needs device features a PWA cannot reach.

Can you take over from a no-code prototype?

Yes. We review what the no-code tool does, export its data and rebuild the proven workflow in code you own. The prototype becomes a useful specification, which often makes scoping quicker.

How much does an MVP cost?

dijitul does not publish prices. After a free chat we run a short scoping stage, agree a tight first-release scope and give a fixed-price quote. You know the cost before any build work begins.
