Software for Melton Mowbray businesses
Melton Mowbray calls itself the Rural Capital of Food, and with good reason. It is the home of the Melton Mowbray pork pie, which has protected geographical status, and the town lies within the area where Stilton cheese can be made, with dairies in the surrounding villages. Food and drink production, from bakers and butchers to larger manufacturers, is a defining part of the local economy.
Pet food is another major industry: Mars Petcare has long had a large presence in and around Melton, including the Waltham Petcare Science Institute at nearby Waltham on the Wolds. The town has a long-established livestock market, and agriculture and agricultural suppliers remain important across the Melton borough. Brooksby Melton College provides land-based and vocational training, and Melton Borough Council is based in the town.
Food businesses here face specific software demands. Protected food names and supermarket customers both come with strict standards for recipes, ingredients and traceability. Producers need batch records, allergen information, labels and use-by dates that are always correct, and many now sell direct online as well as through wholesale and retail. Agricultural businesses want sales, livestock and delivery records that tie into their accounts. Local shops and hospitality businesses want ecommerce, bookings and gift vouchers.
- Recipe, batch and allergen management for food producers
