> dijitul developments builds bespoke software for UK businesses: web applications, customer portals, CRMs, billing systems, dashboards and the integrations that tie them to Xero, Stripe or your ecommerce platform. We have built custom business software since 2011. Every project starts with a free chat, then a fixed-price quote, and you own the code.

## Problems this solves

- Three spreadsheets that disagree, and only one person knows which is right
- Staff retype every order, job or timesheet into a second system
- An off-the-shelf package covers 70% of the job and the rest happens on paper
- Per-user SaaS licences cost more each year and still do not fit your process
- An old Access database or in-house tool that nobody dares to touch
- Customers phone or email for information they could look up themselves

## Key facts

- Built by dijitul (DIJITUL LTD), a Mansfield, Nottinghamshire company trading since 2006
- Custom web-based software since about 2011, including automated billing and staff target management systems
- Typical stacks: PHP 8 and Laravel, Node.js and TypeScript, React or Vue, MySQL/MariaDB or PostgreSQL
- Integrations with Xero, QuickBooks, Sage, KashFlow, Stripe, Shopify and Microsoft 365
- Fixed-price quote for a defined scope, or a phased plan for larger builds
- You own the source code, the database and the hosting accounts
- Role-based access, audit logs and GDPR-aware data handling built in from the start

## What bespoke software actually means for a business

Bespoke software is a system written for one business's processes, data and people, rather than a product sold to thousands of companies who all have to bend to it. For most of our clients it is a secure web application: staff log in from a browser, customers or suppliers may get their own portal, and the system talks to the accounting, payment and ecommerce tools already in use.

The usual trigger is friction. Orders are keyed twice. A manager spends Monday morning building a report from four exports. A process lives in one person's head and a spreadsheet with forty tabs. Off-the-shelf software got you so far, then the workarounds took over. Bespoke software removes the workarounds by encoding your rules once, in one place, with one copy of the data.

It is not always the right answer. If a well-priced SaaS product fits 95% of what you do, we will say so in the first chat. Custom code earns its keep where your process is a competitive advantage, where integrations matter, or where licences are scaling faster than revenue.

## What we build

dijitul developments covers the full range of business software. The main types are:

- [Web applications](https://dijituldevelopments.co.uk/web-application-development/): browser-based systems for staff, the most common thing we build.
- [Customer portals](https://dijituldevelopments.co.uk/customer-portal-development/): logins where customers see orders, invoices, documents and job status.
- [Custom CRMs](https://dijituldevelopments.co.uk/crm-development/) and [ERP systems](https://dijituldevelopments.co.uk/erp-development/) shaped around your sales and operations.
- [Booking systems](https://dijituldevelopments.co.uk/booking-system-development/), [inventory management](https://dijituldevelopments.co.uk/inventory-management-software/) and [automated billing software](https://dijituldevelopments.co.uk/automated-billing-software/).
- [Staff target management](https://dijituldevelopments.co.uk/staff-target-management-software/), [intranets](https://dijituldevelopments.co.uk/intranet-development/) and [dashboards and reporting](https://dijituldevelopments.co.uk/dashboard-reporting-development/).
- [SaaS products](https://dijituldevelopments.co.uk/saas-development/) and [MVPs](https://dijituldevelopments.co.uk/mvp-development/) for founders who want to sell software, not just use it.
- [Mobile apps](https://dijituldevelopments.co.uk/mobile-app-development/), [progressive web apps](https://dijituldevelopments.co.uk/progressive-web-app-development/) and [desktop apps](https://dijituldevelopments.co.uk/desktop-app-development/) where a browser tab is not enough.
- [Database design and development](https://dijituldevelopments.co.uk/database-development/) underneath all of it.

Most projects combine several of these. A wholesaler might need a trade portal, stock sync and Xero invoicing in one build. A service company might need job booking, engineer apps and automated billing.

## Integrations, AI and old systems

Very little business software lives alone. We have been building integrations since the KashFlow and OpenCart days, when we connected online shops to KashFlow so customers, invoices, stock and credit notes flowed across without retyping. Today the same work covers the Xero API (OAuth 2.0), QuickBooks Online, Sage, Stripe Payment Intents and webhooks, the Shopify Admin GraphQL API and Microsoft Graph. See [API integration](https://dijituldevelopments.co.uk/api-integration/) for how we handle rate limits, retries and idempotency so nothing gets posted twice.

We also add AI where it does a measurable job: reading supplier invoices, drafting replies, searching your own documents or classifying incoming requests. That sits under [AI integration](https://dijituldevelopments.co.uk/ai-integration/), and we keep a human in the loop for anything that touches money or customers.

If you already have a system that has outgrown its builder, an old PHP 5 app, an Access database or a tool nobody can maintain, start with [legacy software modernisation](https://dijituldevelopments.co.uk/legacy-software-modernisation/). Often the best route is to keep the data and rebuild the parts that hurt, in stages.

## How a project runs

- **Free chat.** You explain the problem. We ask how work flows today, who uses what, and where the data lives. No charge, no obligation.
- **Scoping.** We map screens, user roles, the data model and every integration, then write it down in plain English. See [discovery and scoping](https://dijituldevelopments.co.uk/discovery-and-scoping/).
- **Fixed-price quote.** A price for that defined scope. Bigger systems are split into phases, each with its own fixed price, so you get something working early and can change direction between phases.
- **Build and review.** You see working software on a staging site as it is built, not a big reveal at the end.
- **Launch and handover.** Data migration, training, documentation and the source code in your repository.

More detail is on [how we work](https://dijituldevelopments.co.uk/how-we-work/). After launch, hosting and ongoing support can run through our sister service at [dijitulsupport.co.uk](https://dijitulsupport.co.uk/), or you can take the code to anyone you like.

## The technical foundations

We choose mainstream, well-supported technology so your software is not tied to us. Most back ends are PHP 8 with Laravel or Node.js with TypeScript. Front ends use Blade with Livewire, Vue or React depending on how interactive the screens need to be. Data sits in MySQL/MariaDB or PostgreSQL, with Redis for queues and caching. Applications are containerised with Docker where that helps deployment.

Every system gets the basics done properly: hashed passwords and optional two-factor or SSO, role-based permissions, an audit log of who changed what, validated input, encrypted connections, nightly backups and queued background jobs for anything slow, like syncing to Xero or sending batches of email. Personal data is handled with UK GDPR in mind: we only store what you need, and we can build export and deletion tools for subject access requests.

You own the outcome. The code lives in a Git repository on your account, the database is yours, and we write handover notes so another developer could pick it up.

## Why dijitul developments

dijitul has traded since 2006 and has built custom software since about 2011. Our own history includes [automated billing software](https://dijituldevelopments.co.uk/automated-billing-software/) first written to invoice customers for electricity, water and gas usage, [staff target management software](https://dijituldevelopments.co.uk/staff-target-management-software/), Adobe AIR desktop apps, and integrations between ecommerce platforms and accounting systems. That background means we think about the boring edges that break business software: VAT rounding, partial payments, duplicate webhooks, timezone changes, and what happens when an API is down.

We are a small, direct team in Mansfield. You talk to the people writing the code. Read more on [our history](https://dijituldevelopments.co.uk/our-history/), or [get in touch](https://dijituldevelopments.co.uk/contact/) to book a free chat.

## FAQs

### How much does bespoke software cost?

It depends on the number of screens, user roles and integrations, so dijitul does not publish prices. After a free chat we scope the work and give a fixed-price quote for that defined scope. Larger systems are split into phases, each with its own fixed price, so you can start smaller and grow.

### Is bespoke software better than off-the-shelf?

Not always. If a SaaS product fits almost everything you do at a fair price, use it. Bespoke software makes sense when your process is unusual or a competitive advantage, when you need integrations a package cannot do, or when per-user licences cost more each year than owning the system would.

### Who owns the code?

You do. dijitul hands over the full source code in a Git repository you control, along with the database and documentation. There is no licence fee to keep using your own software, and you are free to move it to another developer or host.

### Can bespoke software connect to Xero, Sage or Shopify?

Yes. dijitul has built accounting and ecommerce integrations since the KashFlow and OpenCart days. We work with the Xero, QuickBooks Online, Sage, KashFlow, Stripe and Shopify APIs, using queues and retries so invoices and orders sync reliably without duplicates.

### What technology do you use?

Mostly PHP 8 with Laravel, or Node.js with TypeScript, on MySQL/MariaDB or PostgreSQL, with React or Vue front ends where screens need to be highly interactive. We choose mainstream tools so any competent developer could maintain the system later.

### Can you replace our old system without losing data?

Usually, yes. We map the old database, clean and migrate the data, and often run old and new systems side by side for a short period. Our legacy software modernisation work frequently keeps the data model and rebuilds the screens and logic in stages.

### Do you work with businesses outside Nottinghamshire?

Yes. dijitul is based in Mansfield and works with businesses across the UK. Most projects run remotely with video calls, shared staging sites and a written scope, and we can meet in person where that helps.
